For those of you who are moving out soon, make sure you get the most of your security deposit back as possible. Here are some tips for areas most people miss:
1) Check and clean out all drawers and cabinets- you'll get charged for removal of any items left behind.
2) Clean out your oven -this is the most widely forgotten area that people miss and get charged for.
3) Sweep your patio and mop your balcony.
4) Fill in any holes you've created with hanging pictures, etc. This just takes a few minutes and a little white spackle from the hardware store.
5) Look under your range hood- is it greasy?
6) Carpet stains- it's not enough to just vacuum.
7) Check for dirt/dust on window sills, blinds, closet shelves, and pantry shelves.
8) Did you empty your refrigerator and freezer? How about the dishwasher? If not, you'll probably need to scrub the insides clean too.
9) Marks on walls and doors- something most people don't notice about their place, but new tenants will- so make sure to clean these. A "magic eraser" is great for these kinds of jobs.
10) Clean behind the comode in the bathroom, as well as all calcium build-up on fixtures and underneath the sink.
Lastly:
Report any problems, pests, damages, etc. early so the management team can help you get your place in good condition before you leave. You can get charged for neglecting problems in your apartment and not reporting them in a timely manner to prevent further damage, such as leaks, pest problems, etc. Reporting early takes care of a lot that you won't need to answer for after you leave!
